Presentation guidelines

How much time do I have to present?

If you are part of a regular session, you will have 12 minutes to present your talk, followed by a couple of minutes for Q&A. If you have chosen to give a ‘short’ presentation, you will be assigned to Session 4.5, and will have about 6-8 minutes to present, plus Q&A. If you are presenting in the special session or are part of a Science Cafe, please communicate with the session organizers about the format and the time.

Where do I upload my presentation?

If you have a file that needs to be uploaded for your presentation, please bring it in a USD drive, to the registration desk ONE DAY prior to your presentation (note the opening hours). If you are not able to do that, bring the USB to the room where your presentation will be held 20 MINUTES before the start of the session. Someone will be in the room at that time to help you with the upload. Organizers of special sessions should collect all presentations from their session and bring them in a USD drive to the registration desk ONE DAY prior to their session or to the room where the session will be held 20 MINUTES before the start of the session.

What language can I use in my presentation?

English is the official language at the congress and there will be no simultaneous translation. For special sessions, and only in special circumstance, the presentation can be made in another language if the session organizers provide translation. Please do not assume that everyone in the room would understand the alternative language uses, even if it may appear to be so.

Pre-congress workshop: Preferential Access for Small-Scale Fishers

Lead organizer: Sonia Sharan, Oceana, USA

Date: Sunday, April 26th

The workshop aims to bring together experts on Preferential Access for Small-Scale Fishers. This will be a collaborative event that features fisher voices on “Just Harmony” and embodies the principle of science by and for fishers and features community-led initiatives on preferential access in research and policy. This will be a space to lay the foundation and go deep on Preferential Access knowledge - also known as inshore exclusion zones or artisanal stewardship areas: modalities, legal and regulatory mechanisms, political incentives, existing science, and best practices. The geographic focus will be on Southeast Asia and West Africa.

The workshop is open to the registered attendees of the 5th World SSF Congress. It is limited to approximately 30-40 attendees and preference will be for participants with expertise, working interest, or lived experience with preferential access for small-scale fishers.

For further information and to register contact Sonia Sharan (ssharan@oceana.org).
